Couples Therapy

I help couples talk directly to one another, learning practical tools to better collaborate, navigate conflict, and enact communication strategies that work. I offer these tools in service of helping couples build stronger, more connected relationships where both people feel valued, understood, and supported.

It means a lot to me to help each member of the couple develop a deeper understanding of themselves and each other. This intention is grounded in the belief that greater self-understanding allows for improved communication and emotional connection within the relationship.

To support couples in meeting their goals, I draw from an evidence-based framework with strong evidence for improving the quality of relationships and decreasing conflict and distress. Some of the central tenets of this approach include:

  1. Identifying cycles within the relationship that perpetuate conflict and distance, clarifying triggers for these cycles, and developing strategies for recognizing and interrupting them

  2. Helping individuals understand the underlying emotions that exist within themselves in moments of conflict and how these emotions connect to needs within themselves

  3. Finding new ways for couples to relate to each other - learning ways to share more effectively and listen more deeply. This work begins in session and, through structured practice at home, the practice deepens and generalizes to the experience of the relationship in between sessions
